ísland | fjórar – the crystal detector
The text was developed during the work on the project ísland | fjórar – the crystal detector, based on material gathered during repeated visits to Iceland. It emerges from a fascination with the interrelationship of sound, image, and text and their combined operation in relation to specific locations.
Central to the work are sounds that lie outside the usual range of human hearing. Using extended techniques and handmade devices, the artists listen to mineral dissolution processes, the infrasound of the Earth’s rotation, and the ultrasonic activity of geothermal phenomena. These sonic fragments intertwine with documentation of temporary interactions with Icelandic landscapes, alongside photographic and textual material.
