Joint Press Conference of TO)pot and City of Women
On Thursday, 17 September, we met at BAZA, Ljubljana Youth Centre, for a joint press conference of the TO)pot Festival: Walking-with Silences and the 32nd City of Women Festival: Feminist Joy. The presentation of this year’s programmes, their intersections and shared events also opened up space for conversation, encounters and informal exchange over coffee and croissants.
The City of Women programme was presented by its programme directors Jasmina Založnik and Pia Brezavšček, while Irena Pivka, co-founder of Cona, presented the TO)pot Festival. At the centre of the shared presentation was a question: what can connect two seemingly distant themes – silence and joy?
The two festivals meet where silence is not passivity and joy is not an escape from the world. Through walking and listening, TO)pot creates space for overlooked voices, memories, bodies, landscapes and the more-than-human world. City of Women, meanwhile, recognises connection with the body, pleasure and shared joy as forces for building community. In both programmes, art becomes a space for attention, encounter and imagining different ways of living together.
The shared festival path begins on 23 September at Cukrarna, where the opening of TO)pot will feature Bojana Šaljić Podešva, Matjaž Porovne, Tilen Udovič and Alja Mandič Faganel’s Blood is Water (flavoured), co-produced with City of Women.
The collaboration continues on 1 October with the soundwalk Odjek strela by Sava šumi [Urška Savič], tracing a path from the closing echo of TO)pot to the opening of City of Women and a symbolic handover of the festival baton. On 4 October, the two festivals meet again at Koseze Pond for the programme Walking Together, featuring the soundwalks My Secret by Saška Rakef with collaborators and Earthling Gaja by Irena Pivka and Brane Zorman.
Thank you to everyone who joined us at the joint press conference. The meeting offered a fitting introduction to a festival autumn in which silence and feminist joy open up shared spaces for listening, connection and new alliances.
