The CENSE symposium Beyond Listening opens in Gdańsk – Resounding the Rights of Nature
From 14 to 18 October 2026, Gdańsk, Poland, will host the international symposium Beyond Listening: Resounding the Rights of Nature. The Central European Network for Sonic Ecologies (CENSE), of which Cona is a co-founder, is organising the symposium together with Nadbałtyckie Centrum Kultury.
This year’s gathering explores how sound and listening can help us rethink our relationships with nature. It connects the rights of nature with artistic practices, research and everyday ways of living together, inviting us to attend to the beings and ecosystems with which we share our environments.
The symposium will bring together artists, researchers, activists and representatives of various organisations. Conversations and sound practices will take place in cultural venues, museums and outdoors, where shared listening will also become a way of encountering landscapes and their inhabitants.
The programme begins on Wednesday, 14 October, at 17:00 with the introductory session Tuning In in Gdańsk-Oliwa. The following two days will focus on the rights of nature and education in acoustic ecology. On Saturday, Baltic Walk will invite participants to walk together along the Baltic coast, while the symposium will conclude on Sunday with a gathering of the CENSE network.
Participation is free. As capacity at some venues is limited, the organisers recommend registering in advance.
