September 2024 – July 2026
The Sejalke project is designed as a strategic approach to raising ecological awareness among stakeholders within the framework of the TO)pot festival of radical sound walking. The festival addresses environmental topics such as walking, acoustic ecology, and deep listening. As part of the project, we will also dedicate efforts to researching current policies on noise pollution.
The project’s goal is to explore how festivals like TO)pot can become models of sustainable organization, where art serves as a means to understand environmental challenges and promote sustainable practices.
Key Activities of the Project
- Development of the strategic document Sejalke (to be presented in 2025/26).
- Measurement of the carbon footprint of TO)pot festival participants in 2024 and 2025 (analysis for 2024 available).
- Analysis of existing policies for reducing noise pollution (to be presented in 2025/26).
- Awareness-raising activities targeting key audiences and promotional efforts (ongoing).
TO)pot 2024 Measurements
The carbon footprint analysis of the TO)pot festival in 2024 showed that the festival generated approximately 1.36 tons of CO₂ emissions, primarily due to transport (0.51 t CO₂e) and material purchases (0.8 t CO₂e). The festival’s material footprint amounted to 338,531.42 kg, with transportation representing the largest share (304,183.92 kg). The festival’s carbon footprint is roughly one-fifth of the average annual footprint of a Slovenian citizen, while its material footprint exceeds eight times the annual average (Source, page 38).
The Sejalke project is co-financed by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia from the Climate Change Fund.
