Ecological Listening Hub BioSymphony

Music for active, ecological and attentive listening in schools, nature and communities

Biofonija – Ecological Listening Hub is an integrated programme of arts and cultural education for children, young people and local communities. It connects contemporary music and sound art with natural sciences, ecology, movement and direct environmental experience.

The programme understands listening as a creative, exploratory and social practice. It enables children to enter the field of contemporary art through the sounds of nature, animals, spaces, bodies and communities. In doing so, it supports the development of active listening, environmental sensitivity, critical thinking, creativity and social competencies.

The operation uses innovative methods of creating and experiencing contemporary art. Through subtle concerts in nature and schools, sound walks, workshops and collective listening exercises, pupils explore how sound shapes our understanding of space, relationships and the environment. They learn to listen beyond music: to landscapes, other species, communities and their own bodies.

A special focus is placed on multispecies sound communication, biophony, acoustic ecology and the understanding of the environment as a shared sonic space. Through artistic experience, children develop sensitivity to the relationships between humans, other living beings and the environment, while deepening their understanding of contemporary musical and sound art practices.

Designed for two age groups of children, the programme follows an interdisciplinary approach. It connects music education with biology, environmental studies, natural sciences, social studies, ethics and physical education. In this way, it offers schools and local communities an accessible, holistic and experiential model of arts and cultural education that brings together art, science, ecology and embodied perception.

Biofonija – Ecological Listening Hub invites children and communities to develop a deeper understanding of themselves, others, their communities and the environment through scientific curiosity and artistic experience. The programme approaches listening as a fundamental skill of coexistence, attention and responsible engagement with the world.
