AnimotMUZIK
AnimotMUZIK is a research-based artistic cycle that explores sonic relationships between human and more-than-human beings. Grounded in the principles of acoustic ecology and zoomusicology, it approaches the natural sound environment as a dynamic, multispecies composition in which human and more-than-human actors, together with the landscape itself, are understood as equal co-creators. With a strong emphasis on attentive listening and a respectful, situated engagement with animal vocalisations, the cycle fosters an understanding of sound as an entangled interspecies process.
Musicians enter the artistic process as co-creators of an improvised sonic event together with more-than-human beings, giving rise to a non-hierarchical, polyphonic sound structure that moves beyond traditional anthropocentric perspectives. At its core, the project foregrounds ecologically sensitive approaches rooted in the interdependence of all organisms within an ecosystem.
The cycle takes place annually in spring, unfolding in parks, gardens, and selected natural environments, and coincides with the International Dawn Chorus Day. The concept was developed in 2019 by Katarina Radaljac for the exhibition of the same name at the Steklenik Gallery. Over time, the project evolved into a live concert improvisation and transitioned from the gallery space into open natural settings.
AnimotMUZIK is developed in continuous collaboration with the DOPPS-BirdLife Slovenia and the Slovenian Museum of Natural History (PMS). Venue partners include selected landscape parks and organisations managing the following sites: Arboretum Volčji Potok, Krater, MGLC (Plečnik Auditorium), Bohinj Tourist Board, Julian Alps, Ljubljana Marshes, University of Maribor Botanical Garden, The Škofja Loka Museum, and the Božidar Jakac Gallery.
