SO.UND.ING Acousmonium
SO.UND.ING Acousmonium is Slovenia’s leading continuous platform dedicated to the development and presentation of national and international spatial sound art. It brings together octophonic and acousmatic concerts, newly commissioned compositions, workshops, artistic residencies, and professional networking activities. The curatorial selection encompasses pioneers of acousmatic music as well as contemporary authors, highlighting the use of advanced methodologies and tools in sound research and production processes.
Acousmatic music emerged in the mid-twentieth century, rooted in the period of »musique concrète«, which marked an intensive exploration of new expressive, conceptual, and phenomenological possibilities of sound.
Today, its performative dimension is based on composition for specific multichannel sound systems, through which authors spatialise pre-composed phrases (so-called tape music), alongside dynamic, ephemeral, acoustic, and algorithmically generated sounds. These performances enable audiences to engage in deep listening experiences, where interpretations traverse spatial fields and generate imaginary auditory landscapes. The festival thus supports the development of artistic practices that offer insight into studio-based composition and live spatial sound performance.
