You are invited to the opening of the TOpot Festival!

You are warmly invited to the opening of the Radical Sound Walks Festival TO)pot 2024, which will take place on Wednesday, September 25th at 11:30 AM in Cukrarna. The opening event Landscape_people by Ukrainian artist Tetiana Khoroshun will present a live sound performance exploring whether people can become landscapes. By intertwining Ukrainian folk songs with electroacoustic sounds, created in collaboration with artist Liubov Plavsko, she will take us through landscapes deeply tied to her life.

After the opening sound event by Tetiana Khoroshun, you are kindly invited at 12:00 to the premiere of the performative sound walk Sonic Archaeology of the Inner Voice by Spiro Mason and Rene Markovič. On the staircase of Cukrarna, you will have the chance to experience a unique sonic encounter where your footsteps, combined with a digitalized base of modernist poetry, will bring the walls, filled with echoes of history, to life. Through sound sensors and algorithms, your movements will intertwine with inner voices of the past, creating a new sonic landscape.

ABOUT THE WORKS

Tetiana Khoroshun: Landscape_people

Can people become landscapes? Ancestral mountains, mother-streams, father-oaks. Do familiar places and familiar people merge in the mind? And is the landscape truly silent?

Landscape_people is a cycle of Ukrainian folklore songs, which she expand in the area of electroacoustic sounds. Sounds were created in collaboration with Liubov Plavska, Ukrainian ceramic artist, instrument inventor and singer. Every song is dedicated to an area, in which she used to live. Sound of voice forms the main line of landscape, and everything around aims for this line.

Tetiana Khoroshun is a composer, sound designer, performer, and tutor from Ukraine, working in fields of electronic, electroacoustic, contemporary, and experimental music. Author of sound performances, sound installations, music for cinema, theatre, and dance performances, game music, chamber, and orchestral music. Co-author and performer in electroacoustic duet Guma, “First_Tape” group, composer and sound designer in Daraba Studio. Manager of Sed Contra Ensemble. Member of Ukrainian Association of Electroacoustic Music.

Spiro Mason, Rene Markovič: Zvočna arheologija notranjega glasu

Sonic Archaeology of the Inner Voice is a performative sound walk exploring the connection between physical space and the inner voices of the individual. Artists Spiro Mason and Rene Markovič have designed a sonic journey on the staircase of Cukrarna, where each visitor’s step becomes a sound intervention. Using sound sensors and digital algorithms, footsteps, historical echoes, and literary voices intertwine, creating an immersive acoustic experience. The work invites reflection on the past, personal history, and spatial perception, turning the walk through invisible silences and sound reverberations into a journey through the inner world of consciousness.
