An evening-length solo concert of two world renowned musicians and sound artists, who will present each with a one hour audio work.
Facing two musical poetics: a composition for innovative electro-acoustic instrument Springboard and top electronic drum experience.
This evening-length concert event presents two inspiring sound artists who fascinate the audiences with diversity and lushness of their sound as well as with performative dedication. Using self-made instruments and applying electronic and acoustic improvisation in new, innovative ways, they immerse us in the vastness of auditory, mental, and sensual experiences, waves, and dimensions.
Eric Leonardson (USA) and Martin Brandlmayr (Austria) come from completely different cultural, social, and musical milieus. Their work focuses on researching and experimenting with different music methods and recording and performative techniques in a coexistence of space and sound in space sound. Bringing a distinctly individual approach to their musical compositions and stage performance, they build a subtle, intimate, and at the same time extremely intense relationship with the audience. And precisely the diversity, scope, and profusion of sound, brought onstage by the two renowned sound artists, will lead us into an unrepeatable sound-performative experience of a pre-summer night.
Eric Leonardson (ZDA) is a Chicago-based composer, radio artist, sound designer, instrument inventor, improviser, visual artist, and teacher. He has devoted a majority of his professional career to unorthodox approaches to sound and its instrumentation with a broad understanding of texture, atmosphere, and microtones. Leonardson is President of the World Forum for Acoustic Ecology, founder and co-chair of the Midwest Society for Acoustic Ecology, and Executive Director of the World Listening Project.
In Ljubljana Leonardson will perform on the Springboard, a self-built instrument made in 1994, Leonardson performs, records, and tours with musicians and sound artists around the world.ericleonardson.org
Martin Brandlmayr (Austria) is one of the most distinctive-sounding drummers on the planet. He plays drums, vibraphone, transducers and realtime-sample setup. Martin Brandlmayr created such a beautifully complex auditory texture through manual repetition and sampling his own sounds that made you feel like you were looking the retractions in a deep clear pond of water. Brandlmayr is a member of projects and groups: Radian, Trapist, Polwechsel, Kapital band1 and Autistic daughters who appeared on many festivals and tours through Europe, Australia, Usa, Mexico, Japan, China, Canada. martinbrandlmayr.com
