Annie Abrahams, born in 1954 in Hilvarenbeek (the Netherlands) lives in Montpellier France since 1986. She has a doctorate (M2) in biology from the University of Utrecht and a grade (MA2) from the Academy of Fine Arts of Arnhem. In her work, using video, installations, performance as well as the internet, she questions the possibilities and the limits of communication in general and more specifically investigates its modes under networked conditions. She is well known for her net art, collective writing experiments and is an internationally regarded pioneer of networked performance art.
Annie Abrahams has performed and shown work extensively in France, including at the Centre Pompidou and the Jeu de Paume in Paris, the CRAC LR in Sète, and in many international galleries and museums among which The Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb, the Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center in North Carolina, Espai d’Art Contemporani de Castelló v Špain, the New Musem in New York, the Armenian Center for Contemporary Experimental Art in Yerevan, Furtherfield gallery in London, NIMk in Amsterdam, and in festivals such as the Moscow Film Festival, the International Film Festival of Rotterdam and the Stuttgarter Filmwinter (1prize 2011), and on online platforms as Rhizome.org and Turbulence.
